Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) occur when cancer spreads to the delicate membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord — a complication that affects thousands of patients each year. Because LM often develops silently and can be difficult to detect through standard imaging, patients and caregivers are left searching for better answers, clearer diagnoses, and more effective treatments.

Tomorrow at 9:00 AM ET, the nonprofit LiveLung will host its monthly educational webinar featuring Dr. Seema Nagpal, a Neuro-Oncologist at Stanford Health Care, who will lead an important discussion on leptomeningeal metastases: what causes it, how it’s detected, and how new innovations are giving patients renewed hope.

A New Approach to Treating LM: The ReSPECT Clinical Trials

At Plus Therapeutics, we’re advancing a targeted radiotherapeutic approach designed to reach LM tumors directly within the central nervous system. Our ReSPECT-LM clinical trial evaluates REYOBIQ™ (rhenium-186 nanoliposomes), an investigational therapy administered through a small catheter under the scalp to precisely deliver treatment to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

The goal is simple but profound — to deliver radiation directly where cancer cells live, while minimizing exposure to the rest of the body. Early findings from ReSPECT-LM suggest this method could offer a more targeted, better-tolerated therapy option for patients facing one of the hardest-to-treat forms of metastatic cancer.

Why Awareness Matters

Early detection and clinical research participation are essential to driving progress. Advocacy groups like LiveLung play a crucial role in raising awareness for LM and in connecting patients to emerging treatment opportunities. Every discussion, webinar, and shared story helps move science — and hope — forward.

Learn About Active ReSPECT Clinical Trials

If you or someone you know is living with leptomeningeal metastases, you may be eligible to participate in one of our ongoing ReSPECT clinical trials across the United States. Participation helps accelerate the development of potential new treatments that could one day improve care for patients everywhere.
